Overview

A dynamic delegation of over 40 students from our College of Nursing, accompanied by esteemed faculty members Ms. Preeti and Ms. Aarti, actively participated in the 6th Uttarakhand Youth Talk. Hosted at Government Doon Medical College by the Free Smile Foundation alongside Goonj NGO and Proud Pahadi Society, the summit provided a vital platform to engage with pressing contemporary issues: disaster management and environmental pollution. As future healthcare professionals, attending this event offered profound insights into the public health and community health implications of ecological crises.

Key Highlights and Proceedings

Inauguration & Lamp Lighting:

The event commenced with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony. This serene beginning set a tone of enlightenment and shared purpose among the attendees, organizers, and distinguished guests.

Expert Panel Discussion & Interactive Q&A :

The core academic discourse was driven by an esteemed five-member panel that deconstructed the complex challenges of disaster preparedness and environmental degradation. The dignitaries on the panel included:

  • Mr. Chandan Thapliyal
  • Mr. Nitin Swami
  • Mr. Jogi Bhatia
  • Col. Pratul Thapliyal 

A major highlight of this session was the open forum. The dignitaries directly engaged with the students, thoughtfully answering their questions and fostering a deeper understanding of how communities can build resilience against natural disasters and pollution.

Paper Presentations:

Following the panel, rigorous scholarly paper presentations highlighted innovative solutions and evidence-based strategies for environmental sustainability.

Cultural Tapestry:

Balancing the intense academic sessions, the event celebrated regional and global heritage. A brilliantly choreographed Garhwali dance honored local traditions, while a graceful Tibetan dance added a beautiful dimension of multicultural unity to the gathering.

Goonj NGO Showcase:

As the sessions drew to a close and just prior to the formal vote of thanks, Goonj NGO held an inspiring showcase. They displayed their recent humanitarian achievements and presented various sustainable products, demonstrating practical, grassroots approaches to community support and environmental consciousness.

Valedictory & Felicitation:

The summit culminated in a dignified closing ceremony. Every participating student was awarded a Certificate of Participation and all the dignitaries along with our college were honoured with a prestigious momento of Ms. Durga Devi by the chief guest Mr. Durgesh Pant. In a proud moment for our institution, the College of Nursing was also given a Certificate of Appreciation, recognizing the exceptional discipline and enthusiastic engagement of our students under the continuous guidance of Preeti Mam and Aarti Mam.

The event was concluded with the inspirational and motivational speech of the chief guest Mr. Durgesh Pant, who shared his thoughts on disaster management and role of youth. 

Conclusion:

The 6th Uttarakhand Youth Talk was an intellectually stimulating experience and a vital reminder of our civic and professional responsibilities. The integration of expert knowledge from the diverse panel, practical insights from the collaborating NGOs, and cultural appreciation made the event a resounding success. It left all participants newly inspired to champion environmental health and disaster resilience in our communities.
