M.Sc. Forensic Science is a two-year postgraduate program (spread across four semesters) designed to elevate students to expert levels. It imparts advanced conceptual, technical, and interpretive skills essential for identifying, analyzing, and deriving scientifically sound conclusions from complex evidence. The curriculum masterfully blends theory with extensive practical training across biological sciences, chemical sciences, physical sciences, basic and applied analytical techniques, crime laws, and ballistics. A key highlight of the program is its strong emphasis on research, encouraging students to explore, examine, and develop specialized interests in forensic science-thereby accelerating innovation and efficiency in criminal investigations. These programs cultivate highly skilled forensic professionals equipped not only with multidisciplinary scientific expertise but also with the critical thinking, ethical awareness, and practical proficiency needed to support the criminal justice system, contribute to groundbreaking research, and uphold the integrity of evidence in court.
M.Sc. Forensic Science
2 Years (4 Semesters)
The candidate should have passed a Bachelor Degree under 10+2+3/4 pattern of education in science i.e. Physical, Biological, Veterinary, Pharmacy, Engineering/Technology or Medicine (M.B.B.S.) or B.D.S. from any Institute/ University recognized by University Grant Commission, New Delhi with at least 50% marks for general and other categories and 45% for SC/ ST category candidates. The age limit and Reservation to the course shall be as per SGRR University rules.

Postgraduates with an M.Sc. in Forensic Science enjoy significantly enhanced career opportunities compared to undergraduates, as the advanced degree qualifies them for senior technical, supervisory, and specialized roles in crime investigation and justice delivery. They can work as Forensic Scientists, Scientific Officers, DNA Analysts, Forensic Toxicologists, Digital/Cyber Forensics Experts, Ballistics Specialists, or Crime Laboratory Supervisors in government Forensic Science Laboratories (FSLs), Central Forensic Science Laboratories (CFSL), CBI, Intelligence Bureau (IB), state police departments, and medical examiner offices. Postgraduates also find promising positions in private forensic labs, detective agencies, insurance companies and hospitals. Other possible career paths include academic positions as lecturers or researchers (upon qualifying for UGC-NET and completing a Ph.D.), quality control roles, and even launching your own forensic consultancy.
