Course Overview

The Ph.D. programme in Zoology at Shri Guru Ram Rai University (SGRRU), Dehradun, offers a vibrant and research-driven environment for scholars seeking to advance knowledge in biological and environmental sciences. The Department has achieved international recognition through the discovery and scientific description of six new species of water mites (Acari: Hydrachnidia)—Neoatractides tashiwangmoi, Aturus uttarakhandensis, Sperchonopsis himalayaensis, Kongsbergia tuzovskiji, Kongsbergia uttarakhandensis, and Sperchon dobriyalii. These discoveries highlight the Department’s expertise in biodiversity assessment, systematic zoology, and freshwater ecosystem research, and reflect its commitment to advancing global scientific knowledge. With a proven track record of quality research, scientific publications, and academic excellence, the Department provides an ideal platform for doctoral scholars to undertake innovative research and develop successful careers in academia, research institutions, environmental organizations, and the life sciences sector.

Admission is based on the University Research Entrance Test (RET) or national-level eligibility examinations such as CSIR-NET, followed by an interview. Successful completion of the prescribed Pre-Ph.D. coursework is mandatory. Prior to thesis submission, each scholar must publish a minimum of two research papers in Scopus-indexed journals and present at least two research papers at national or international seminars/conferences.
