The B.Sc. (Hons.) / B.Sc. (Hons. with Research) in Food Technology is an advanced undergraduate programme designed to equip students with in-depth scientific knowledge and practical technical skills in food production, preservation, safety, and innovation.
This four-year programme goes beyond a conventional B.Sc. degree by integrating research-oriented learning. It enables students to explore the complex science of food systems, engage in hands-on experimentation, and develop innovative solutions to contemporary challenges faced by the global food industry. The curriculum integrates core scientific disciplines such as food chemistry, microbiology, nutrition, food engineering, and quality assurance, alongside emerging technologies in food processing and packaging. Emphasis is placed on both theoretical understanding and hands-on training through laboratory sessions, industrial internships, and project-based learning.
4-year UG Degree (Honours with Research): Students who secure 75% marks and above in the first six semesters and wish to undertake research at the undergraduate level can choose a research stream in the fourth year. They should do a research project or dissertation under the guidance of a faculty member of the University. The research project will be in the major discipline. The students, who secure 160 credits, including 12 credits from a research project/dissertation, are awarded UG Degree (Honours with Research).
