From 23rd to 25th February 2026, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of Home Science, successfully organized a training programme on the preparation of nutritious Holi snacks with the objective of promoting health awareness, skill development, and entrepreneurship among students. The programme provided hands-on, experiential learning in which students prepared nutritious papad using wholesome and locally available ingredients such as semolina, beetroot, spinach, and turmeric, along with crispy ajwain sticks, emphasizing balanced nutrition, hygiene, taste, and food innovation. Special focus was given to reimagining traditional festive foods with a healthy and contemporary approach suitable for modern consumers.
Beyond food preparation, the programme significantly enhanced entrepreneurial skills by training students in product standardisation, packaging techniques, labelling, pricing and basic marketing strategies. Students marketed and sold their products under the brand name SHRI STAR (Student Training and Research) Product, gaining real-time experience in consumer interaction, promotion, and sales management.
Overall, the programme successfully integrated nutrition education, skill enhancement, and entrepreneurship, empowering students with practical knowledge and confidence to explore self-employment opportunities in the food and nutrition sector while promoting healthy festive eating practices.
Dean, SHSS, Prof. (Dr.) Preeti Tiwari appreciated the initiative of the Department of Home Science and stated that such training programmes effectively bridge academic learning with practical application. She commended the programme for nurturing entrepreneurial mind-sets among students while promoting nutrition, innovation, and self-reliance.
