School of Engineering & Technology, Shri Guru Ram Rai University, Dehradun, organized a Tobacco Awareness Programme on 10 September 2026 in collaboration with the District Tobacco Control Cell, Dehradun, under the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP).
The programme aimed to create awareness among students regarding the harmful effects of tobacco consumption, its impact on physical and mental health, and the importance of adopting a healthy and tobacco-free lifestyle.
The programme was graced by Dr. Manoj Sharma, Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Dehradun, as the Chief Guest. Dr. Sharma was accompanied by a team from the District Tobacco Control Cell comprising:
Dr. Manoj Sharma, CMO Dehradun, addressed the students and highlighted the serious health disadvantages of tobacco consumption. He sensitized students about the harmful effects of tobacco on physical health and emphasized the importance of staying away from tobacco products.
Dr. Anuradha Pradhan, Clinical Psychologist, District Tobacco Control Cell, delivered a brief presentation focusing on tobacco-related health concerns and the importance of awareness and prevention, particularly among young people.
An interactive Q&A session was conducted, providing students with an opportunity to ask questions and clarify their concerns regarding tobacco use, its consequences, addiction, and prevention.
A poster competition on the theme “Tobacco Free Youth – Leader for Tomorrow” was organized by the District Tobacco Control Cell. Students actively participated and presented creative and impactful messages highlighting the importance of a tobacco-free society.

The programme concluded with a collective Anti-Tobacco Pledge, in which all participants pledged to stay away from tobacco and contribute towards creating a healthy and tobacco-free society.
The programme provided students with an opportunity to understand the health hazards and social consequences of tobacco consumption. The interaction with healthcare professionals helped students gain a better understanding of tobacco-related health risks and the importance of prevention.
The initiative contributed towards strengthening awareness among students and promoting the vision of “Tobacco-Free Youth – Leaders for Tomorrow”, in alignment with the objectives of the National Tobacco Control Programme.
