SPECIALISTS FROM NORTH INDIA GATHER AT NATIONAL CONFERENCE OF NATIONAL COUNCIL FOR TEACHER EDUCATION

Dehradun. On Saturday, a National Conference was organized by National Council for Teacher Education (N.C.T.E.), New Delhi at Shri Guru Ram Rai University. This Conference which was organized in association with Shri Guru Ram Rai University and Gurukul Kangri Deemed University was attended by more than 300 subject specialists from various Universities, P.G. Colleges and Education Institutions from all over North India. 15 Vice Chancellors from various universities of Uttarakhand, New Delhi, West U.P., Punjab and other states participated in this National Conference organized on the topic, ‘Significance of Yoga in development of Teachers and Teacher Education’ who expressed their ideas and shared knowledge on this topic. They all said in one voice that the inclusion of Yoga Education in the New Education Policy is a worth welcoming decision. 

On Saturday, the National Conference was started jointly at the auditorium of Shri Guru Ram Rai University by lamp lighting by Chairperson, National Council for Teacher Education, Dr. Dinesh Prasad Saklani, Member Secretary, National Council for Teacher Education, K.Y. Kesang Sherpa, Vice Chancellor, Gurukul Kangri Deemed University, Haridwar, Prof. Roop Kishor Shastri and Vice Chancellor, Shri Guru ram rai University, Dr. Uday Singh Rawat.

Vice Chancellor, Shri Guru Ram Rai University, Dr. Prof. Uday Singh Rawat in his welcome note to the guests informed about the various activities and achievements of the Deptt. of Yoga of the university. He expressed gratitude towards SGRR University’s Chancellor Shri Mahant Devendra Das Ji Maharaj and congratulated all for the successful organzing of the conference.

In his address to the gathering, Chairperson, National Council for Teacher Education (N.C.T.E.), Dr. D.P. Saklani said that currently there are enormous caliber and talent in the school students. Such children will put a challenge in front of their teachers in the fields of logic and research. In such circumstances, it’s a must that the teachers keep themselves updated and alert for the coming time. In the New Education Policy, many significant points have been included. The teachers will need to understand that instead of imparting education to make clerks, the education must aim to create intellectuals. Yoga is important for every teacher on academic level as well as holistic development for the teacher. He said that Yoga is not just an exercise art but is a philosophy to lead the life in a positive style. Yoga brings patience and compassion in teachers making themselves role models in front of the students.

Member Secretary, National Council for Teacher Education (N.C.T.E.), K.Y. Kesang Sherpa,IRS, in her address said that Yoga is a beautiful identity of the country of India and his an exercise art as old as five thousand years. She said that since pre historic times, the relation of human race is with mother Nature is intimate. In ancient writings, it has been mentioned that in what way the human race can follow nature and its rules to achieve a healthy life style. She said that in the integrated teachers programme course, Yoga education has been included. This has been confirmed by the University Grants Commission (U.G.C.).

Vice Chancellor, Gurukul Kangri Deemed University, Haridwar, said that the art of Yoga got birth by the inspiration of great saint Maharishi Patanjali. He said that Yoga is not just an exercise art but it teaches us how to lead a healthy holistic life. 

Director, Academics, Sanskrit Promotion Foundation, Prof. Chand Kiran Saluja said that it’s step worth welcoming that Yoga has been included in the New Education Policy. This will aid in better development of education and teachers. He said that currently we are living in the 21st Century which is ultra modern having Artificial Intelligence, Computers, Cyber, Internet and information technology playing significant roles in education. But at the same time, the whole world has recognized the contribution of India towards the world which is Yoga and Indian knowledge. This is a matter of pride for us Indians. The principle of the New Education Policy is that we must peep into every child, recognize his potential, talent and nurture him accordingly. He said that the world has received Yoga in the form of a treatment. United Nations Organization (U.N.O.) has also said that Yoga unites mind and body positively. A Vote of Thanks was given by Registrar, Gurukul Kangri Deemed University, Haridwar, Dr. Sunil Kumar. At the occasion Vice Chancellor, ICFAI University, Dr. Ram Karan Singh, Former Professor & Head, Deptt. of Yogic Science, Gurukul Kangri Deemed University, Haridwar, Prof. Ishwar Bhardwaj, Professor, Rashtram school of Public Leadership, Sonipat, Haryana, assistant Professor, Deptt. of Yoga Education , Morarji desaiNational Institute of Yoga, New Delhi, Dr. Sapna Nanda, Principal, Government College of Yoga Education & Health, Chandigarh, Head, Deptt. of Yogic Science, Gurukul Kangri Deemed University, Haridwar, Professor Surender Kumar and Mr. Mohit Vasdev from Interdisciplinary Centre for Swami Vivekananda Studies, Punjab University, Chandigarh also gave lectures on various topics and threw further light on Significance of Yoga in development of Teachers and Teacher Education. 

A vote of Thanks was given by Registrar, Shri Guru Ram Rai University, Dr. Deepak Sahni.

Significant roles were also played by Shri Guru Ram Rai University’s Dean, Academics, Dr. Malvika Kandpal, Dean, School of Education, Dr. Kritima Upadhyay and Senior officials of National Council for Teacher Education, Dr. T. Pritam Singh, Regional Director, North Region Committee, Mr. R.K. Chaturvedi, Regional Director, East Regional Committee, Mr. Ravindra Singh, Section Officer, Mr. Abhimanyu Yadav, Section Officer, Mr. Priyank Jain & Section Officer, Mr. Anil Kumar in making the National Conference a success.
