To commemorate the momentous occasion of Azaadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, Wing Commander Vikrant Uniyal of Indian Air Force participated in Mount Everest Expedition and successfully climbed Mount Everest.

Wing Commander Vikrant Uniyal highlighted his deep faith in Shri Darbar Sahib, remembered all the meetings he had with Shri Mahant Devendra Das Ji Maharaj and laid down this victory of the world’s highest mountain peak in the blessed feet of Shri Guru Ram Rai Ji Maharaj.

On Thursday, Wing Commander Vikrant Uniyal bowed down at Shri Darbar Sahib and met Shri Mahant Devendra Das Ji Maharaj who showered his divine blessings on him. It’s worth mentioning that the childhood of Wing Commander Vikrant Uniyal was spent at Shri Darbar Sahib. Shri Maharaj Ji congratulated Wing Commander Vikrant Uniyal on his achievement of successfully climbing the world’s highest mountain peak Mt. Everest.  Wing Commander Vikrant Uniyal will be pursuing Ph.D. from Shri Guru Ram Rai University in Management discipline.

Wing Commander Vikrant Uniyal said that he extends victory of Mt. Everest as a tribute given by him to all the unsung heroes and movements which contributed to India’s freedom struggle. The Everest Expedition itself is an unparalleled journey of both legendary and epic proportion. As an ode to the sacrifices made it was befitting to honor them by reciting the National Anthem at the Summit of  Mt. Everest. He said that the peak Mount Everest holds the honour just like the sacrifice of martyrs. His arduous expedition started from Kathmandu, Nepal on 15 April 2022 with team members from across the globe.

Wing Commander Vikrant Uniyal is a qualified mountaineer who is trained from Nehru Institute Of Mountaineering, Uttarkashi, Army Mountaineering Institute, Siachen, and National Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports, Arunachal Pradesh. Despite the Inhumane environment, the arduous expedition was completed successfully. The mercury count was between -10 to -20 during daytime, and dropped further during night time. This expedition required patience, stamina, mental fortitude and a strong will.  To generate interest in the climb, the officer designed a commemorative e-postcard  for his seniors, friends, loved ones and posted them online, in the network area while setting course. The summit day with infinite steps was exciting and tiring. The officer was determined to hoist the National flag on the summit of Mt. Everest on the occasion of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotasav and share the proud feeling. Not only did he hoist the Indian Flag on the Summit of Mt. Everest on 21 May 22, but he also felt extremely proud as being the only Indian to  Sing the National Anthem without oxygen support on the Summit of Mt. Everest on this momentous occasion of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. It is a mark of patriotism, instilling the feeling of Nationalism to highlight the unsung heroes of the freedom struggle.

He said that this expedition was the symbol of motivation for patience, physical strength, mental caliber and firm determination to achieve outstanding goals.
