International Nurses Day was celebrated with enthusiasm, dignity, and vibrant cultural performances on May 12 by the School of Nursing of Shri Guru Ram Rai University. On this occasion, the nursing staff of Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital exchanged greetings and reaffirmed their dedication toward service and humanity.

The program, organized on Tuesday at the auditorium of Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Medical and Health Sciences, was inaugurated by Dr. Manisha Dhyani, Registrar of the Uttarakhand Nurses and Midwives Council, Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) K. Prathapan, Prof. Dr. Malavika Kandpal, Prof. Dr. Om Narayan Tripathi, Dr. Kirti Singh, and Dean of the School of Nursing Prof. Dr. G. Ramalakshmi, who lit the ceremonial lamp before the portrait of the legendary nurse Florence Nightingale. A soulful rendition of Saraswati Vandana filled the atmosphere with spiritual energy.

Chief Guest Dr. Manisha Dhyani, in her inspiring address, said, “Nurses are not merely a medium of treatment, but a ray of hope and trust on every suffering face. Their sensitivity, patience, and spirit of service are the true strength of the healthcare system.”

Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) K. Prathapan praised the nursing staff of Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital and said, “The identity of any hospital is not defined by its advanced machines, but by the compassion, discipline, and dedication of its nurses. The smile returning to a patient’s face is the greatest recognition of the tireless service rendered by nurses.”

Dean of the School of Nursing, Prof. Dr. G. Ramalakshmi, informed that this year’s theme for International Nurses Day 2026 was “Our Nurses, Our Future: Empowered Nurses Save Lives.” She said nursing is not merely a profession, but one of humanity’s greatest services, and empowered nurses form the foundation of a healthy society.

More than 350 B.Sc. Nursing, GNM, and ANM students participated in the lamp-lighting ceremony and pledged to provide the best patient care with compassion and sensitivity. Dr. Ponmari presented the annual report of the School of Nursing and shared details of the institution’s achievements and activities throughout the year.

The cultural performances captivated the audience. Colorful folk tunes, traditional dances, and musical presentations brought India’s cultural diversity to life. In the fashion show, students showcased attractive catwalks in traditional attire representing various states, receiving huge applause from the audience. Sanjana Uniyal secured first place, Bhawna and Muskan jointly secured second place, while Arohi came third.

The “Regional Diversity” program emerged as a major attraction, presenting mesmerizing glimpses of the culture, folk traditions, costumes, and customs of Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Bihar, Manipur, and Tibet. Decorated with vibrant colors, music, and folk culture, the event beautifully reflected the spirit of “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.” Uttarakhand secured first place, Tibet second, while Manipur and Bihar jointly secured third place in the competition.
