  • An inspirational session organized to promote the overall health and well-being of female students
  • Expert doctors shared valuable tips on women’s health, mental health, skin care, nutrition, and yoga

A one-day Counseling and Motivational Programme was organized at Shri Guru Ram Rai University with the support of the IQAC Cell. A healthy body is the foundation of a healthy mind, while a healthy mind enables a person to make better decisions, develop positive thinking, and move forward in life with renewed energy. Keeping this thought at the centre, the university organized the programme with a focus on the overall health, mental empowerment, and healthy lifestyle of its female students.

Specialist doctors from Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital interacted with the students on important health-related issues and motivated them to give equal priority to their physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

The programme was held on Tuesday at the auditorium of Shri Guru Ram Rai University. It was jointly inaugurated by Dr. Lokesh Gambhir, Registrar, SGRRU; Dr. Yamini Kansal, Senior Gynaecological Cancer Specialist; Dr. Neenu Kaul, Skin and Venereal Disease Specialist; Dr. Malavika Kandpal, Dean, Student Welfare; and Dr. Sonia Gambhir, Director, IQAC, by lighting the ceremonial lamp.

During the medical session, Senior Gynaecological Cancer Specialist Dr. Yamini Kansal provided detailed information on various important aspects of women’s health. She sensitized the students about common gynaecological problems, menstrual irregularities, anaemia, nutrition, healthy lifestyle practices, and the importance of HPV vaccination. She emphasized that it is extremely important to understand the hormonal and physical changes that occur during adolescence and young adulthood.

Skin and Venereal Disease Specialist Dr. Neenu Kaul addressed the students on the topic, “Adolescent Skin: Common Problems and Cosmetic Challenges.” She explained that acne, oily skin, and other skin-related problems are common during adolescence due to hormonal changes. Highlighting the importance of skin hygiene, a balanced diet, and proper skin care, she said that healthy skin depends not only on external beauty but also significantly on internal health.

Psychiatrist Dr. Shivanjali Gupta interacted with the youth on the topic, “Understanding the Adolescent Mind.” She said that adolescence is a phase of life during which stress related to studies, career, relationships, social expectations, and the future may increase. Therefore, it is essential to identify the signs of mental health problems such as depression, anxiety, emotional stress, and eating disorders at an early stage. Describing the rising number of suicide cases as a serious concern, she said that instead of leaving a person struggling with mental distress alone, it is important to listen to them, provide emotional support, and seek the help of a mental health professional whenever required.

Dietitian Sonam informed the students about the importance of healthy and balanced nutrition. She said that during young adulthood, the body requires adequate protein, iron, vitamins, minerals, and other essential nutrients. Irregular eating habits, skipping meals, and excessive consumption of junk food can adversely affect health. She advised the students to include locally available and nutritious foods in their daily diet, drink sufficient water, and follow a balanced diet.

Yoga expert Dr. Himani Nautiyal highlighted yoga and pranayama as important components of a healthy lifestyle. She shared practical tips on regular yoga practice to help students reduce stress, improve concentration, and keep their bodies active.

During the programme, the experts also interacted with the students and addressed their health-related queries. Hundreds of female students of Shri Guru Ram Rai University participated in the programme.

The programme was hosted by Ms. Simran Agrawal, while Ms. Ayushi Ahluwalia coordinated the event.
