A guest lecture on the topic “Achievements of Panchayati Raj in India” was organized on 4th April 2026 at Pathribagh Auditorium under the Alumni Guest Lecture Series by the School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS), Shri Guru Ram Rai University.
The keynote speaker, Dr. Narendra Jagudi, an esteemed alumnus of the university, addressed the gathering. In his lecture, he highlighted that the concept of modern courts has its roots in traditional village panchayats. He explained that, in earlier times, disputes in villages were resolved by local panchs, which eventually laid the foundation for the present judicial system.
Dr. Jagudi emphasized that the Panchayati Raj system continues to hold great relevance today, particularly in addressing rural issues. He stressed the importance of strengthening this system and encouraged active participation in the development of villages, society, and the nation.
On this occasion, the Dean of the School of Humanities, Prof. (Dr.) Preeti Tiwari, remarked that the success of Indian democracy is deeply rooted in the Panchayati Raj system. She further emphasized that Panchayati Raj institutions play a crucial role in empowering rural communities and promoting grassroots democracy. She encouraged students to understand the significance of local governance and to contribute meaningfully towards rural development and nation-building.
The Head of the Department of Mass Communication, Prof. Ashish Kulshreshtha, added that such informative lecture series would continue to be organized in the future to enrich students’ academic and practical understanding. Prof. Geeta Rawat, along with other faculty members and a large number of students, was also present at the event.
