A five-day workshop on GIS and Remote Sensing, organized by the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of Geography and Economics at Shri Guru Ram Rai University, concluded on Monday. More than 65 students participated in the programme, held from April 29 to May 4, 2026. Certificates were distributed to participants during the closing ceremony.
In his message, University President Shri Mahant Devendra Das Ji Maharaj said that such workshops help students gain practical knowledge and enhance their career opportunities.
The workshop provided hands-on training in GIS tools, remote sensing techniques, and spatial data analysis. Experts, including Dr. Devi Datt Chauniyal, Dr. Kamal Pandey from the Indian Space Research Organisation, Kapil Oberai, and visiting faculty Amit Bora, shared their knowledge and experience.
Students attended practical sessions on ArcGIS, remote sensing applications, map analysis, and toposheet study. The sessions were interactive, with a focus on group discussions and experiential learning. Lectures and demonstrations helped students better understand modern geospatial technologies and also encouraged an interest in research.
The department thanked all experts, faculty members, and students for making the workshop successful. The organizers stated that such programmes are important for students’ academic and professional development.
