Educational Visit to the Department of Pulmonary Medicine, AIIMS Rishikesh

The Department of Physiotherapy, School of Allied and Health Care Sciences, Shri Guru Ram Rai University (SGRRU), Dehradun, organized an educational visit to the Department of Pulmonary Medicine at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Rishikesh, on 12 October 2026 for the MPT Cardiopulmonary Physiotherapy students. The students were accompanied by Dr. Surbhi Thapliyal, PT; Dr. Ritika, PT; and Dr. Abhishek, PT. During the visit, the faculty members and students had the opportunity to meet Prof. Dr. Meenu Singh, Director, AIIMS Rishikesh, and Prof. Dr. Girish Sindhwani, from the Department of Pulmonary Medicine. The interaction provided a valuable opportunity for academic exchange and discussion regarding advancements in pulmonary medicine, cardiopulmonary physiotherapy, and clinical education.

A major highlight of the visit was the exposure to the cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) machine. The students gained valuable insights into the role of CPET in assessing exercise capacity, evaluating integrated cardiovascular and respiratory responses to physical activity, identifying exercise limitations, and guiding individualized exercise prescription and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation.  

The visit offered an enriching learning experience for the postgraduate students by familiarizing them with advanced clinical assessment technology and providing an opportunity to interact with experienced medical professionals. It also strengthened the scope for academic collaboration and future research opportunities between the Department of Pulmonary Medicine, AIIMS Rishikesh, and the Department of Physiotherapy, School of Allied & Health Care Sciences, SGRRU, Dehradun.
