The School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of History, successfully organized its second educational-cum-outreach programme on 31st March 2026 in collaboration with the Department of History, DAV (PG) College, Dehradun. This programme was conducted under the renewed academic MoU signed between the two institutions in 2025 and reflects the vision of experiential learning as emphasized in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The students visited two important sites on Thano Road, Dehradun. The first visit was to the State Archives Department, Uttarakhand, where students were given a guided tour and introduced to scientific methods of preservation, cataloguing, digitization, and conservation of rare historical records, manuscripts, and visual materials. The second visit was to Lekhak Gaon (Writers’ Village), a unique initiative by the Government, where students learned about efforts to support writers, poets, and literary artists.
This outreach programme effectively connected classroom learning with practical exposure, especially in subjects such as Museum and Archive, Documentation, and Visual Culture. Students gained valuable insights into archival practices and literary heritage, which helped enhance their research skills, analytical thinking, and understanding of Uttarakhand’s cultural heritage. The programme also strengthened academic collaboration between institutions and highlighted the department’s commitment to holistic, experiential learning beyond the classroom.
The programme was coordinated by the faculty members of the Department of History, namely Mr. Manoj Prakash Jaguri, Dr. Debasree Dhar and Dr. Vinod Kumar Pant.
