The Department of Geology is an essential entity of the School of Basic and Applied Sciences, Shri Guru Ram Rai University, Dehradun, Uttarakhand. Since this department was established in 2017, due to the constant efforts made by the concerned staff and faculty members under able leadership, the department has been progressing in all domains of higher learning. All the faculty of our department are highly qualified and having sound knowledge of their subject.
The Department finds itself singularly fortunate in being equally strong both in hard rock (petrology, mineralogy and geochemistry) and soft rock domains (palaeontology, stratigraphy, sedimentary, coal and petroleum geology). In addition there is an equally strong in structure and tectonics, hydrogeology, engineering geology and remote sensing. Research efforts are focused on improving the framework for managing and developing natural resources (water, rocks, and minerals) in a sustainable manner so that the environment can be preserved. The department specializes on studying the central Indian Himalaya, which is the most tectonically active region of the Himalayan Arc. Graduates of B.Sc.
