National Safe Motherhood Day was observed on 11th April 2026 in the OBG Ward of Shri Mahant Indresh Hospital by the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecological Nursing, SGRRIM&HS College of Nursing, Shri Guru Ram Rai University.
The programme was organized with the aim of creating awareness among antenatal and postnatal mothers regarding the importance of safe motherhood practices, maternal health, nutrition, personal hygiene, danger signs during pregnancy, newborn care, breastfeeding, family planning, and the importance of regular antenatal check-ups.
The event began with a brief introduction about National Safe Motherhood Day and its significance in reducing maternal mortality and promoting the health and well-being of mothers and newborns. The students highlighted the 2026 theme, “Holding Ground on Maternal Health,” emphasizing the need to continue supporting mothers through quality healthcare services, timely interventions, and health education.
Nursing students actively participated in the programme by conducting health education sessions for mothers admitted in the OBG Ward. Various teaching methods such as posters, charts, and interactive discussions were used to make the session more effective and understandable.
Mothers participated enthusiastically in the session and clarified their doubts regarding pregnancy, delivery, breastfeeding, and newborn care. The programme helped improve their awareness and encouraged them to adopt healthy practices for safe motherhood.
