BUGYALS ARE IN DANGER, COLLECTIVE INITIATIVES NECESSARY FOR PRESERVATION OF BUGYALS

- BUGYAL VEERS’ WORKING FOR THE PRESERVATION OF BUGYALS HONOURED WITH ‘GIRI GANGA’ AWARDS

Dehradun. Bugyal Amrit Mahotsav was organized jointly by Shri Guru Ram Rai University and Maiti Foundation. In the programme, the specialists shared experiences, ideas and knowledge for the preservation of Bugyals. The ‘Bugyal Veers’ (people struggling to preserve Bugyals) were honoured with ‘Giri Ganga’ Award.

On Wednesday, the programme was initiated jointly at the auditorium of Life Sciences at the Patel Nagar Campus of Shri Guru Ram Rai University by Vice Chancellor Dr. Uday Singh Rawat and Maiti Foundation’s President Kalyan Singh Rawat by lamp lightening. While addressing the gathering at the occasion, Dr. Uday Singh Rawat said that Bugyals (grounds of velvet in Alpine Zone) which are vital and precious for the ecosystem are currently under threat due to so many reasons. In these Bugyals, so many  medicinal herbs and ‘jari bootis’ are found in these Bugyals which are of immense use for the welfare of the human race. Nowdays, due to human disturbance and interference in these Bugyals, contamination of plastic and other types of pollution is increasing which is threatening the very existence of these Bugyals. He said that govts., NGOs and other organizations working for human welfare along with the general public must take oath to save these Bugyals. On behalf of Maiti Foundation, he declared that every year ‘Bugyal Sanrakshan Diwas’ (Bugyal Preservation Day) will be celebrated on 31st August.

In the programme, Padam Shree A.N. Purohit, Prof. M.C. Bagri, Madan Sigh Bisht, Gulab Singh Negi, Sanjay Chauhan and Dr. Mahender Singh Kunwar were honoured by awarding them with ‘Giri Ganga Gaurav Award’. President of Maiti Foundation, Kalyan Singh Rawat said that Bugyals have spiritual and religious significance too. He raised concern over urgent requirement of preserving main Bugyal areas like Auli, Gairsain, Vedni, Dyara and Kushab Kalyani. He said that Shri Guru Ram Rai University and Maiti Foundation will jointly take out movement for the preservation and enrichment of Bugyals.

Maiti Foundation honoured SGRR University’s Vice Chancellor Dr. Uday Singh Rawat with Lifetime Achievement Award. ‘Jagar Samragyi’ Basanti Devi Bisht sang a ‘Jagar’ very beautifully which dominated the hearts of the audiences.  Convener of the programme, Prof. (Dr.) Vipul Jain gave the Vote of Thanks. Stage anchoring was done by Programme Co-ordiantor Dr. Divya Negi Ghai. The occasion was also marked by the auspicious presence of Shri Guru Ram Rai University’s Registrar Dr. Deepak Sahni, Dr. R.P. Singh, Manoj Tiwari, Deans and HODs of all the Schools & Colleges, faculties, staff and students.
