School of Pharmaceutical Sciences Organises 6th National Pharmacovigilance Week 2026

With the blessings of his Holiness Mahant Shri Devendra Das Ji Maharaj, the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences (SPS), Shri Guru Ram Rai University (SGRRU), Dehradun, organized a programme on 17th September 2026 at the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences in observance of the 6th National Pharmacovigilance Week 2026, on the theme “Promoting Rational Use of Medicines through Pharmacovigilance: A Step Towards Safer Healthcare.” The programme was conducted under the esteemed guidance of the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, SGRRU, with the valuable support and encouragement of the Registrarand the Director IQAC, SGRRU. The programme aimed to sensitize students and participants about pharmacovigilance, medication safety, rational use of medicines, and the importance of reporting Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs), while promoting awareness, communication, creativity, teamwork, and responsible medicine use. 

The event commenced with a Lamp Lighting Ceremony and SaraswatiVandana, followed by the felicitation of the respected Dean, Dr. G. Gnanarajan, and an inaugural address by Dr. Anuj Nautiyal, HOD, Pharmacy Practice, who emphasized that pharmacovigilance is a shared responsibility and that awareness, rational medicine use, and timely ADR reporting are essential for safer healthcare. The programme was anchored by Ms. Priyanshi (Pharm.D III Year) and Mr. Vedant (Pharm.D II Year). As part of the celebrations, three student-centric activities were organized: an Awareness Presentation by Ms. Priyanka, Pharm.D III Year, highlighting the relevance and role of pharmacovigilance in contemporary healthcare; a NukkadNatak (Street Play) coordinated, directed, and guided by Dr. AssemBabbar, Ms. Deepti Negi, and Ms. Megha, Assistant Professors, SPS, in which Pharm.D and D.Pharm students creatively addressed rational medicine use, medication safety, ADRs, ADR reporting, responsible medicine use, and public awareness; and a Short Movie Competition, in which student teams presented films based on pharmacovigilance and medication safety, demonstrating creativity, teamwork, acting, script development, and technical skills. The short movies were evaluated by the jury comprising HODs of Pharmaceutical Sciences on the basis of relevance to the theme, content and message, creativity and originality, presentation, acting, technical execution, and overall impact. Team C (D.Pharm II Year) secured the Winner position, Team B (D.Pharm I Year) was declared First Runner-up, and Team A (Pharm.D I Year) secured the Second Runner-up position. The event was coordinated by Ms. Shipra Omar and Mr. Anand Singh Pimoli, Assistant Professors, SPS and witnessed enthusiastic participation from students of SPS, who actively demonstrated their knowledge and creativity in communicating pharmacovigilance-related concepts. The programme provided students with an opportunity to apply their academic knowledge beyond the classroom and strengthened their understanding of pharmacovigilance, ADR identification and reporting, rational medicine use, patient and medication safety, the role of healthcare professionals, and the importance of public awareness regarding medicine-related adverse effects. The event successfully achieved its objectives of promoting pharmacovigilance awareness, responsible medicine use, health communication, creativity, and teamwork among students. The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Ms. Shipra Omar, who expressed sincere gratitude to the dignitaries, faculty members, students, guests, and participants for their valuable contribution. 

EVENT REPORT DAY - 2

As part of the 6th National Pharmacovigilance Week 2026, the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences in collaboration with Department of Pharmacology, Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Medical & Health Sciences (SGRRIM&HS), Shri Guru Ram Rai University, Dehradun, organized a Training and Sensitization Session for Pharm.D students on 18th September 2026 at the Department of Pharmacology, SGRRIM&HS, Dehradun. The session focused on Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) reporting and its importance in promoting medication safety and rational use of medicines. The training was delivered by Dr. Shakti Bala, Head of the Department of Pharmacology, Dr. Suman Bala, Professor, Department of Pharmacology and Mr. Bipin Prakash Tamta, Pharmacovigilance Associate who sensitized students regarding the identification, documentation, and timely reporting of suspected ADRs and the role of pharmacovigilance in patient safety. The interactive session helped students understand the practical importance of ADR reporting and their role as future healthcare professionals in strengthening medication-safety practices. The session enhanced students’ awareness and understanding of ADR identification, documentation, reporting, pharmacovigilance, and medication safety. It encouraged Pharm.D students to actively contribute to ADR reporting and promote safer and more rational use of medicines in clinical practice.
