On 7th November 2025 Sterlite EdIndia Foundation in collaboration with Shree Guru Ram Rai University (School of Education) organized a Faculty Development Workshop on “Artificial Intelligence in Education” to build awareness and practical understanding among teacher educators about the role and use of AI in modern classrooms. The session focused on bridging the gap between technology and pedagogy by empowering faculty to meaningfully integrate AI tools into their teaching-learning processes. Participants were encouraged to explore AI not just as a technical innovation but as a collaborative tool for enhancing teaching and learning experiences.

Objectives of the Workshop

  • To introduce the concept and evolution of Artificial Intelligence.
  • To understand human intelligence and artificial intelligence.
  • To familiarize participants with policy perspectives related to AI in education.
  • To provide hands-on exposure to various AI-based tools.
  • To explore how AI can assist teachers in knowledge construction, assessment and reporting.
  • To discuss the ethical use of AI in educational contexts.

Methodology

The workshop adopted an interactive, demonstration-based approach. It included a combination of presentation, reflection, and hands-on practice to help participants engage with AI concepts effectively.

Key strategies included:

  • AI or Not? Activity: Participants identified everyday examples of AI applications to distinguish real and perceived AI.
  • Demonstration of AI Tools: Hands-on exploration of tools such as Notebook LM, Mentimeter, Google Lens, and Copilot to illustrate practical uses in teaching, reporting, and presentation creation.
  • Discussion on AI Ethics: Faculty reflected on issues like data privacy, misinformation, and equitable access to AI technology.
  • Group Reflection: Participants shared how they could integrate AI tools in their own teaching practice.

Session Flow

  • The session began with an introduction to the concept of Artificial Intelligence and its connection with Human Intelligence.
  • Participants explored how AI systems acquire, process, and apply information through real-life examples such as ChatGPT, Google Maps, Amazon, and Instagram.
  • The facilitator explained Machine Learning and Computer Vision using simple, relatable examples.
  • Participants reflected on the importance of AI in education, emphasizing areas like accessibility, personalized learning, and automation of administrative tasks.
  • The workshop concluded with a discussion on ethical implications and responsible use of AI in classrooms.

Learning Outcomes

  • By the end of the session, participants were able to:
  • Understand the basic concepts and evolution of Artificial Intelligence.
  • Identify how AI can support various aspects of a teacher’s role, from lesson planning to reporting.
  • Use AI-based tools effectively for teaching, presentation, and reporting.
  • Reflect critically on the ethical concerns associated with AI use in education.
  • Recognize AI as a collaborative aid rather than a competitor to human intelligence.

Conclusion

The workshop was insightful and well-received by the faculty members. Participants actively engaged in activities, explored AI tools, and discussed practical classroom applications. The session helped educators visualize how Artificial Intelligence can simplify teaching tasks while enhancing creativity, accessibility, and learner engagement.
