The difficult terrain of Uttarakhand and its recurring natural disasters have always tested the resilience of mountain communities. In such challenging times, humanitarian support from different sections of society becomes a true lifeline for those affected. Once again, Shri Guru Ram Rai University (SGRRU) has upheld this tradition of compassion by dispatching relief material for the disaster-hit families of Basukedar in Rudraprayag district.
On Thursday, the university’s esteemed Advisor, Vipin Chandra Ghildiyal, and Registrar, Dr. Lokesh Gambhir, flagged off relief vehicles loaded with essential supplies including food grains, medicines, and daily necessities. These relief items will be distributed among the affected families with the support of the local administration and Kedarnath MLA, Asha Nautiyal.
Speaking on the occasion, the Honourable President of the University, Shri Mahant Devendra Das Ji Maharaj, said, “In times of crisis, true service is not in formal assistance alone, but in compassion and humanity. Our prayers are with the affected families that they may find the strength to overcome this hardship.” He further appealed to all institutions of the university group to extend maximum support towards relief efforts.
This is not the first time SGRR University has stepped forward in times of calamity. Earlier, in Dharali (Uttarkashi) and Tharali (Chamoli), the university and Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital had reached out with relief materials, free medical care, and even provisions for free education for the children of disaster-affected families. Carrying forward this noble tradition, the Basukedar victims will also be provided free medical treatment at Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital and free education opportunities at SGRR University.
Such initiatives stand as living proof that universities are not merely centers of knowledge, but also the heartbeat of society. In times of adversity, SGRR University has redefined social responsibility—not as a formality, but as a model of service and compassion.
Many associated with the relief efforts believe that this initiative has brought renewed hope and confidence to families battling the aftermath of the disaster. For those who witnessed the university’s assistance in Dharali and Tharali, this compassionate gesture serves as a reminder that institutions standing as pillars of support are society’s true heritage.
SGRR University’s initiative goes far beyond the delivery of relief supplies. It embodies a spirit of human compassion and social responsibility—sending out a strong message to future generations that the union of education and service is what truly empowers and sensitizes society.
