• University Vice Chancellor flags off relief convoy loaded with food supplies
• Cooked meals distributed across several flood-hit villages
In the face of a devastating natural disaster when the hill communities are grappling with hardships, Shri Guru Ram Rai (SGRR) University has taken up a compassionate social responsibility by launching a ‘Community Kitchen’ (Saanjha Chulha) in the Sahastradhara region from Thursday. Through this initiative, not only are affected families being provided fresh cooked meals, but food packets are also being delivered to remote areas.
The University’s Vice Chancellor, Dr. (Prof.) Kumud Saklani, flagged off trucks laden with food supplies, marking the formal commencement of the relief operation. The aid included grains, medicines, and other daily essentials.
SGRR University President, Shri Mahant Devendra Das Ji Maharaj, said:
👉 “During the crisis of a natural disaster, it is our foremost duty to ensure that no affected family feels abandoned. This is our collective responsibility—to stand together and be each other’s support.”
The community kitchen reached several villages including Adhoiwala, Bagda Dhoran, Kadligad, Bhandara, and Sera, where victims gratefully received the hot meals. Relief work was further supported by the CHC Raipur medical team, local volunteers, and daily wage workers, all of whom benefitted from the initiative.
This is not the first time the University has stepped forward in times of crisis. In the past too, SGRR University and Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital have extended relief material and medical support in disaster-affected areas such as Dharali (Uttarkashi), Tharali (Chamoli), and Basukedar (Rudraprayag).
This humanitarian initiative once again reinforces the fact that educational institutions are not merely centers of knowledge, but also the heartbeat of society. Time and again, SGRR University has gone beyond formalities to set an inspiring example of service, empathy, and social responsibility.
Local women praised the community kitchen, saying that the University has provided “home-like meals” and set a new benchmark in relief efforts. They shared that, in times when raw rations and dry supplies are difficult to use immediately, freshly cooked hot food has proven to be nothing less than a life-saving elixir.
“This service is not just about filling empty stomachs; it is a living testimony of human compassion and social sensitivity,” said one of the women. Amid broken homes and shattered dreams, these meals are reassuring victims that no matter how grave the crisis, the collective strength of society is even greater.
Relief workers added that the initiative has brought a new ray of hope and trust among the disaster victims. The union of education and service is not only providing strength to the present but also sending an inspiring message to future generations:
👉 “It is compassion that truly strengthens society.”
