School of Agricultural Sciences, Shri Guru Ram Rai University (SGRRU) successfully organized a seminar on “Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Management, Licensing, and Technology Transfer” at the Pathribagh Auditorium on January 31, 2026.The programme was jointly organized by the School of Agricultural Sciences and the Innovation and Incubation Cell (IIC), SGRRU, with the objective of strengthening awareness about innovation protection and commercialization among students and faculty.
The seminar was inaugurated by the Honourable Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Prathapan K. Pillai, who emphasized that in the contemporary knowledge-driven economy, universities must play a proactive role in converting research outcomes into protected intellectual assets. He highlighted the importance of nurturing a strong innovation ecosystem supported by effective IPR policies and technology transfer mechanisms and highlighted the relevance of IPR in agricultural research, particularly for protecting indigenous knowledge and sustainable farming technologies.
The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Anupam Barh, Senior Scientist, ICAR–Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation (IISWC), Dehradun. He provided valuable insights into the complete lifecycle of innovation, covering ideation, patent filing, licensing strategies, and commercialization within the Indian legal framework. Drawing from real-world experiences, he emphasized the need for researchers to safeguard their innovations to enhance societal and economic impact.
Dr. Dwarika Maithani, Director, Innovation and Incubation Cell (IIC), elaborated on the incubation and start up support facilities available at SGRRU and encouraged participants to actively engage with the IIC for patent facilitation and entrepreneurship development. Dean Student’s welfare Dr.Malvika S Kandpal, Dr.Preeti Tiwari, Additional COE, Dr.Sunil Kishtwal ,Dr. Himanki,Dr.J.P.Singh, Dr.A.K.Saxena, Dr.Suneeta and all faculties were present .
The seminar witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members and students, followed by an interactive session addressing practical challenges related to technology transfer and commercialization. The event reinforced SGRRU’s commitment to fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and industry–academia collaboration, ensuring that research outcomes contribute meaningfully to societal development.
The programme was anchored by Ms. Illika and Ms. shivangi, students of the School of Agricultural Sciences, who conducted the proceedings smoothly and maintained active audience engagement throughout the session.
An interactive discussion followed, during which participants raised queries related to technology transfer, commercialization challenges, and institutional IPR support mechanisms.
The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks proposed by Dr. Priyanka Bankoti, Dean School of Agricultural Sciences. The seminar reinforced SGRRU’s commitment to promoting innovation, intellectual property awareness, and industry–academia collaboration, enabling research outcomes to contribute meaningfully to societal development
