Maternal Health Awareness Day 2026 was observed with great enthusiasm to highlight the importance of protecting and promoting maternal well-being. The theme for the programme, “Holding Ground on Maternal Health,” emphasized sustaining progress in maternal care while addressing existing challenges. The programme was organized by OBG department under the guidance of DR. Prof. G. Ramalakshmi, Principal/Dean, SGRRIM & HS college of nursing, SGGR University on 22-01-2026. The programme was graced by Dr. Anjali Choudhary, Professor in Obstetrics and gynaecological department, SGRR University, who served as the Chief Guest for the session. She delivered an informative and impactful session on maternal health, focusing on safe pregnancy practices, the importance of antenatal and postnatal care, nutrition, mental health, and early identification of high-risk pregnancies. Her session sensitized the students to the need for timely medical intervention and community support for expectant mothers. The session reinforced the message that strengthening healthcare systems, empowering women, and ensuring continuity of care are essential to reduce maternal morbidity and mortality.
The programme was successful in enhancing knowledge and awareness regarding maternal health among participants. Nursing students actively participated and gained practical insight into maternal health promotion activities. Participants showed keen interest and actively interacted during the sessions, clarifying their doubts related to pregnancy and childbirth.
Maternal Health Awareness Day 2026 was effectively conducted and achieved its objectives of spreading awareness and promoting safe motherhood practices. Such programmes play a vital role in empowering women, strengthening maternal healthcare services, and preparing nursing students for community-oriented maternal health interventions.
