The Department of Psychology, School of Humanities & Social Sciences, in collaboration with Divya Karuna Organization, successfully organized a one-day International Conference on the theme “Mental Health & Well-being in a Changing World: Integrating Self, Nature, Consciousness & Global Challenges.”
Hundreds of participants from India and abroad joined the conference through both online and offline modes.
The conference was inaugurated with the traditional lamp-lighting ceremony by Prof. (Dr.) Prathapan K. Pillai, Officiating Vice Chancellor, Dr. Malvika Kandpal, DSW; Dr. Preeti Tiwari, Dean, SHSS; Swami Dr. Parmarth Dev; Dr. Surendra Kumar Dhalwal; and Dr. Santosh Vishwakarma.
In his keynote address, Swami Dr. Parmarth Dev, Chief Central Coordinator, Bharat Swabhiman Nyas, Patanjali Yogpeeth, emphasized that true mental health can be achieved only through the balance of self, nature, and consciousness. Dr. Surendra Kumar Dhalwal, Head, Dept. of Ayurveda, NIVH, Dehradun, shared insights on mental health from the Ayurvedic perspective, highlighting yoga and Ayurveda as scientific tools for mental balance.
International speaker Dr. Barry Rathner (Poland) spoke on the global dimensions of mental health, Birungi Beatrice (Uganda) highlighted the role of awareness in African societies, Dr. Pramila Thapa (Nepal) discussed mental health policies and public awareness in South Asian countries, and Prof. Mett (USA) delivered a lecture on positive mental health and emotional intelligence.
During the event, a book titled “International Conference on Vedic Psychology: Conference Proceedings and Glimpses” was also released.
Dr. Garima Singh, the conference convener, played a key role in the successful organization of the event. The conference witnessed enthusiastic participation from deans, HODs, faculty members, and students of the university.
