The School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of Mass Communication, organized an insightful guest lecture on “Role of Public Relations in Government Administration” on 20 February 2026. The lecture was delivered by Prof. Govind Singh, Chairman, Media Advisory Committee, Government of Uttarakhand, and Former Dean (Academics), Indian Institute of Mass Communication.
Prof. Govind Singh is a senior journalist, academician, and media strategist with over 43 years of professional experience, including 30 years in mainstream journalism (with more than 20 years in senior editorial leadership roles) and 13 years in media academics. The lecture offered students a clear and practical understanding of the strategic importance of public relations in modern governance and public administration.
In his address, Prof. Govind Singh explained that public relations act as a vital bridge between the government and citizens. He emphasized that effective government communication is not merely about sharing information, but about building trust, ensuring transparency, strengthening accountability and promoting meaningful public engagement. He highlighted that communication strategies must be timely, accurate and citizen-centric to ensure the successful implementation of government policies and welfare schemes.
Prof. Govind Singh encouraged students to uphold ethical standards and develop professional competence in government communication. The lecture was interactive and engaging with students actively participating and seeking guidance on career opportunities and media policies in the public sector. His extensive academic and administrative experience made the session both informative and inspiring.
The Department of Mass Communication expressed sincere gratitude to Prof. Govind Singh for his valuable insights and for motivating students to explore the dynamic field of public relations in governance with professionalism and integrity.
