INTRODUCTION

The Empower Her Club organized a First Aid Training Session at the College of Nursing under the guidance of Dean Prof. (Dr.) G. RamaLakshmi.

The training program aimed to enhance students’ knowledge and practical skills in providing immediate care during emergency situations. The session was conducted to promote awareness about basic life-saving techniques and to prepare nursing students to respond effectively and confidently during medical emergencies.

SESSION DETAILS

The training session covered essential first aid topics including fractures, wounds, bleeding, burns, seizures, and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). During the session, students were introduced to the fundamental principles of first aid and the importance of providing timely and appropriate care before professional medical assistance arrives.

Students were taught how to identify and manage fractures by properly immobilizing the affected area and preventing further injury. The management of wounds and bleeding, including cleaning the wound, controlling bleeding, and applying appropriate dressing techniques, was also demonstrated. Information regarding burn management and immediate first aid care was explained to help minimize complications.

In addition, students learned how to handle seizure emergencies, with emphasis on ensuring patient safety, preventing injury, and providing supportive care during and after the seizure episode.

Special emphasis was placed on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Students were guided through the steps of checking responsiveness, assessing breathing and pulse, calling for help, and performing chest compressions along with rescue breathing. Demonstrations were conducted to help students understand the correct CPR technique, compression depth and rate, and the importance of immediate action during cardiac emergencies.
