Introduction

As part of the 5th-semester curriculum focusing on Community Health Nursing and on the occasion of “WORLD LEPROSY DAY”, students visited Raphael Ryder Cheshire, an NGO established in 1959 by humanitarians Lord Leonard Cheshire and Lady Sue Ryder. The center is a premier institution for the rehabilitation of individuals with intellectual disabilities, leprosy-cured patients, and tuberculosis (TB) patients. World Leprosy Day is observed to raise awareness about leprosy, reduce stigma, and promote early diagnosis and treatment. Theme for this year is “Leprosy is curable the real challenge is stigma”.

  • To promote early detection and timely medical care
  • To encourage social acceptance and eliminate discrimination
  • To learn about the long-term care and social reintegration of leprosy-cured individuals.

Areas Visited
