The Department of Medical Surgical Nursing organized a CPR training program on 31.01.2026 at 11 am. Dr. Ponmari. K, Professor cum HOD in Medical Surgical Nursing, Mr. Ankit, CPR coordinator and team, was organized this programme with a warm welcome. 

Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is a life-saving technique useful in many emergencies, such as a heart attack, sudden cardiac arrest, or near-drowning, where breathing or heartbeat has stopped. In order to enhance the knowledge and skills of students/healthcare workers/general public, a CPR training program was organized by the institution. The training focused on developing practical competence and confidence in performing CPR during emergencies.

Objectives of the Training Program

  • To create awareness about the importance of CPR in life-threatening emergencies.
  • To provide hands-on training on Basic Life Support (BLS) and CPR techniques.
  • To build confidence among participants to perform CPR effectively.
  • To promote quick response skills in emergency situations.

The training program was attended by 15 participants. All participants actively took part in both theoretical and practical sessions.

Program Highlights

1. Inaugural Session:

  • Welcome address by Ms. Kanchan Negi
  • Introduction by Ms. Divya
  • Brief overview of the importance of CPR

2. Technical Session: (Mr. Ankit, CPR Coordinator)

  • Lecture on the principles of Basic Life Support (BLS) and CPR
  • Demonstration of CPR techniques on mannequins
  • Step-by-step training on:
    • Assessing unresponsiveness
    • Calling for help and activating EMS
    • Chest compressions and rescue breaths
    • Use of Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

3. Hands-on Practice:

  • Participants practiced chest compressions and rescue breathing
  • Real-time feedback was given by participants

4. Question and Answer Session:

  • Clarification of doubts
  • Sharing of real-life scenarios

Outcomes of the Training

  • Participants gained theoretical knowledge and practical skills on CPR.
  • Increased awareness of the importance of immediate intervention during cardiac emergencies.
  • Improved confidence in using CPR techniques and AED.

Conclusion

The CPR training program was highly beneficial, equipping participants with essential life-saving skills. Such training programs should be conducted regularly to empower students, staff, and the people to respond effectively in emergencies and save lives.
