Department of Genetics & Plant Breeding

Plant improvement has a long history for its growth and development. Plant breeding became established as a science in the twentieth century following the rediscovery of Mendel’s laws of inheritance. Nearly 50% of global increase in food production is attributed to plant breeding. The Department of Genetics & Plant Breeding of School of Agricultural at SGRR University was established in the year 2022 with the aim to impart teaching, research, extension in plant breeding and to develop sufficient human resources in Genetics and Plant Breeding with advanced knowledge and technical skill to elevate the agricultural sector to attain a new peak in increasing food production matching the requirement of population. The Department has well- knit postgraduate programme M.Sc. (Ag.) Genetics & Plant Breeding with updated and modern course curricula as per the ICAR and NEP guidelines as per considerations based on demands of private sector harnessing commercial aspects, modern research tools and their applications, supplementary skills required, and to enhance the global competitiveness and employability of our students. The Department has excellent facilities for teaching various courses in Genetics & Plant Breeding and Biotechnology as required for undergraduate and post-graduate degree programmes. Department has been graced by distinguished faculty. Several programmes including lectures, workshops is being conducted by the department for students. In addition to that Department provide value added certificate course on “Basic Concepts in Laboratory Techniques” which is open for all students of SGRR University this course aims to generate scientific temperament among students by imparting scientific knowledge and skill development.
