INTRODUCTION

The College of Nursing, SGRRIM & HS organized a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Training Session in the Pharmaceutical Department under the guidance of Dean Prof. (Dr.) G. RamaLakshmi.

The training program aimed to strengthen the knowledge and practical competencies of nursing students in managing life-threatening emergencies, especially cardiac arrest. The session focused on developing confidence and readiness among students to provide immediate and effective care in critical situations.

SESSION DETAILS

The training session emphasized the concept of Basic Life Support (BLS) and the critical role of CPR in saving lives. Students were introduced to the fundamental steps involved in emergency response, including early recognition of cardiac arrest, activation of emergency services, and timely initiation of CPR.

Participants were trained to assess the patient’s condition by checking responsiveness, airway, breathing, and circulation. Detailed demonstrations were provided on correct hand placement, chest compression technique, appropriate depth and rate of compressions, and the importance of maintaining proper rhythm during CPR.

The session also included guidance on rescue breathing techniques and coordination between chest compressions and ventilation. Practical demonstrations using mannequins allowed students to observe and understand correct procedures clearly.

Hands-on practice sessions were conducted, enabling students to perform CPR under supervision. This practical exposure helped them develop essential psychomotor skills required during real-life emergency situations.

PARTICIPATION

A total of 150 students actively participated in the training session. The program was successfully conducted with the valuable support and guidance of faculty members from the Fundamentals of Nursing Department, College of Nursing.

Students showed great enthusiasm and actively engaged in both theoretical and practical components of the training, making the session highly interactive and effective.
