Sri Guru Ram Rai University and Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital have taken over the relief operations to help the people affected by the recent natural disaster in Dharali (Uttarkashi). On behalf of the university administration, relief material will be delivered through SGRR Public School in Badkot of Uttarkashi district on Wednesday. Researchers of geology at Sri Guru Ram Rai University have expressed deep concern over the possibility of cloudburst during monsoon in remote hilly areas of Uttarakhand. In the research done in the previous research, the researchers had made it clear that the siltain passing through the valley areas becomes more vulnerable to sudden rise in water level during the rainy season, which can lead to situations like flash floods.
The head office of Sri Guru Ram Rai University has issued instructions to coordinate relief operations. Under this, medicines, food items, blankets, clothes and other essential items will be provided to the disaster affected people. The university administration has also announced that children from the disaster-affected area will be provided free admission in some selected courses of Sri Guru Ram Rai University. In addition, free treatment facility will be provided to the victims at Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital in Dehradun. Information about this humanitarian effort was given by the Registrar of the University, Dr. Lokesh Gambhir.
Kamla Rawat, Principal, Sri Guru Ram Rai Public School, Barkot and Uttam Singh Chauhan, Principal, Sri Guru Ram Rai Public School, Purola, informed that on the special directions of Shri Guru Ram Rai University, Honorable Chairman of Shri Guru Ram Rai University, Shri Mahant Devendra Das Ji Maharaj, the relief and rescue operations are being carried out. The Principal has coordinated with ADM Uttarkashi and other administrative officers and ensured arrangements to send relief materials. He said that due to heavy rains, the road beyond Uttarkashi is blocked, due to which the relief material will be sent to the relief material control room in Uttarkashi. Clear instructions have been issued by the head office of SGRR University to all SGRR institutions located in Uttarkashi to provide all possible assistance in relief and rescue operations. This initiative on behalf of the organization is a reflection of social responsibility in the hour of disaster.
Georesearchers at Sri Guru Ram Rai University also believe that such disasters often occur without prior warning and are prone to recurrence. Cloudbursts are more frequent and more damaging during the night. He suggested that a pre-planned shift of the residents of hilly areas to safer places should be taken with special caution during these sensitive months of the year. This can prevent the loss of life and property to a great extent.
