Bachelors in Physiotherapy (BPT)

Physiotherapy is equipped with all modern facilities & Laboratories for imparting education & training in Physiotherapy. It provides graduate and post graduate Courses in Physiotherapy. As the largest Allied Health Professional group, Physiotherapists work with people with a variety of disabilities, injuries & illness, Primarily, they use physical means to promote health, rehabilitation and where possible recovery using education and information giving manual therapy, therapeutic exercise and electrotherapy. It is in great demand now days for preventive treatment and rehabilitation of various musculo-skeletal and neurological disorders like polio, paralysis, slip-disc, spondylities, joint dislocation, etc. it is used exclusively, as well as, in addition to conventional; treatment. Physiotherapist also considers psychological, social and cultural factors. They use a variety of interpersonal skills to enable clients to take an active role in their recovery/rehabilitation programmes whilst respecting client rehabilitation goals. They work with other members of the health and social care team in a variety of hospital and community environments.

Physiotherapists are involved with teaching and correlate with other practitioners with the implementation and management of change. The wide scope of physiotherapy is one of its assets making it an exciting and varied career.

Physiotherapists are now challenging traditional healthcare roles and the scope of the profession is extending to encompass consultants physiotherapist or senior hospital managers. Those entering the profession can look forward to dynamic and challenging careers.

  • ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: A Candidate seeking admission to Bachelor of Physiotherapy (hereinafter called B.P.T) Course, must have pass 10+2 examination from a recognized Board/Council/University with Chemistry, Physics, Biology and English with 50% marks in PCB OR Diploma in Physiotherapy conducted by a recognized Board/Council/University OR Medical College, or Such other qualifications as prescribed by the University from time to time.
  • REGISTRATION: Candidate admitted to the course in Physiotherapy College shall register with this University by remitting the prescribed fees along with the application from for registration duly filled in and forwarded to the University through the Head of the Institution with in the stipulated date.

Graduates work in hospitals, community health centers and agencies, rehabilitation units, or in preschool and school programs. Alternatively, they may prefer to work in private practice offering treatments to a full range of patients or specializing in areas such as sports physiotherapy, manipulative physiotherapy, pediatrics, obstetrics, orthopedics or other fields of particular interest. Additional employment opportunities exist for researchers, advisors or consultants in educational, industrial or government institutions.

Physiotherapists are required in each department of a hospital, be it ICU or geriatrics and they can also choose to work independently or be part of a multidisciplinary team. You can enjoy flexible working hours as a consultant, choosing the number of hours you work every day. Some hospitals choose to pay physiotherapists according to the number of patients he or she sees. Initial remuneration of physiotherapists varies from place to place.

In India, the starting salary ranges from Rs. 25,000 to Rs.30,000 per month. Generally, private hospitals provide remuneration ranging between Rs. 25,000 to Rs.55,000 per month for a fresher.

In a government hospital like AIIMS, you begin as a Junior Physiotherapist and earn approximately Rs. 30,000 per month.  The progression in designations is Physiotherapist followed by Senior Physiotherapist earning about Rs. 45,000 per month, followed by Superintendent earning about Rs.60,000-70,000 per month and then Chief Physiotherapist earning about Rs.80,000 per month.
