Bachelor in Medical Radio Imaging Technology (BMRIT)

Medical Imaging known as Radiography or Radiology is the Technique concerned with operating radio imaging Machine such as X-ray, C.T. Scan, MRI and Ultrasound to create images of human body for clinical purposes or medical science. It also involves treatment of cancers and tumors with radiation.

Radiologic technology modalities (or specialties) Include.

  • Diagnostic Radiography deals with examination of internal organs, bones, Cavities and foreign objects; includes cardiovascular imaging and interventional radiography.
  • Sonography uses high frequency sound and is used in: obstetrics (including fetal monitoring throughout pregnancy), abdominal, Pediatrics, Cardiac, Vascular and musculo-skeletal region imaging.
  • Fluoroscopy live motion radiography (Consant radiation) usually used to visualize the digestive system; monitor the administration of contrast agents to highlight vessels and organs or to help position devices within the body.
  • CT (Computed Tomography) which provides cross-sectional views (slices) of the body; can also reconstruct additional images from those taken to provide more information in either 2D or 3-D.
  • MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) builds a 2-D and 3-D map of different tissue types within the body.
  • Nuclear Medicine uses radioactive tracers which can be administered to examine how the body and organs function, for example the Kidney or heart.
  • Radiotherapy uses radiation to shrink, and sometimes eradicate, cancerous cells/ growths in and on the body.
  • Mammography use low dose x-ray systems to produce images of human mammary glands.

Infrastructure

X-ray, fluoroscopy, Mammography, Ultrasound, CT scan and MRI which is inseparable part of students practical thus they get real time experience of functioning of these equipments.

No Candidate shall be allowed to be admitted to the B.Sc Medical Radio Imaging Technology (MRIT) until:-

  • He/She has completed the age of 17 years on or before first day of July of the year commencing the prescribed academic session of the said course;
  • He/She has passed qualifying examination as under:
  • The Indian school Certificate Examination which is equivalent to 10+2 Higher Secondary

Examination after a period of 12 years study, the last two years study comprising of Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Mathematics or any other elective subject with English at a level not less than the core course for English as prescribed by the National Council for Educational Research and training after the introduction of the introduction of the 10+2+3 years educational structure as recommended by the National Committee on education;

The Intermediate examination in science of an Indian University/Board or other recognized examing body with Physics, Chemistry, Biology /Maths which shall include a practical test in these subjects and also English as a compulsory subject.

The pre-professional or medical examination with Physics, Chemistry and Biology after passing either the higher Secondary school examination, or the pre-university or an equivalent examination. The pre-professional/pre-medical examination shall include a practical test in physics, Chemistry and Biology/and also English as a compulsory subject.

The first year of the three years degree course of recognized University, with Physics, Chemistry and Biology/ including a practical test in these subject provided the examination is a ‘University Examination’ and candidate has passed 10+2 with English at al level not less than a core course;

B.Sc examination of an Indian University, provided that he/she has passed the B.Sc examination with not less than two of the following subjects-Physics, Chemistry (Botany, Zoology) and further that he/she has passed the earlier qualifying examination with the following subjects Physics, Chemistry/Biology and English (10+2 level);

Any other examination which in scope and standard is found to be equivalent to the intermediate science examination of an Indian University/Board, taking Physics, Chemistry and Biology including a practical test in each of these subjects and English.

  • After successful completion of program a student will be capable of holding assignments in hospital and health care institutions, research laboratories and diagnostic centers.
  • Students with an instinct to learn can do higher studies in specialized field of study and can progress as scientists and even can enjoy faculty positions in academic institutions.

What is the Duration?

Duration : 3½ yrs
Highlights: The course curriculum includes 6 months internship period.

What is Radiologic Technologist?

A Radiologic Technologist, also known as medical radiation technologist and as radiographer, performs imaging of the human body for diagnosis or treating medical problems.The common subjects of basics in Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology, Microbiology, Surgery & Medicine taught in the 1st year will prepare the student to understand the nature of disease. The hands on experience in the department of Radiology from day one onwards will enable the student to understand the nature of the illness beginning with routine imaging to CT and MRI scans. The students will receive excellent and exhaustive training in these fields to be able to assist senior radiologists.
