The Department of Biochemistry is committed to education, research, patient care and training of UG and PG students. Our Department strives to acquire an in-depth knowledge of the fundamental principles of the subject of Biochemistry with an aim to train our UG and PG students, so that they can apply this knowledge for understanding the basis of health and disease.

Department of Biochemistry has all the basic infrastructure for research and teaching aids as per MCI guidelines. Our Department has recognized Post graduation MD Courses with intake of two MD residents every year.

All the laboratories have the state of art infrastructure and automation to function independently to carryout research.

Academic Activities

Apart from the didactic lectures for UG and PG students, the following activities are conducted in the Department.

  • Journal Club of PG students
  • Case Discussion for PG Students
  • Self directed learning
  • Dissertation progress report submission by PG students.

UG Practical Laboratory

Department is equipped with the practical Laboratory having a seating capacity of 90 students. It is well equipped and has all the required infrastructure (Instruments, chemicals and glass wares). The laboratory has an attached preparation room. The laboratory is assisted by well trained technical staff members.

PG Practical Cum Research Laboratory

The Department has a well-equipped research laboratory provided with all the modern amenities like ELISA, Semi-auto analyzer, Spectrophotometer, Centrifuge machine, magnetic stirrer, pH meter, Electrophoresis unit, Chromatography and Electronic balance etc.

Clinical Laboratory

We have a huge Central Biochemical Laboratory located in SMI Hospital, which receives samples from OPD, IPD, Emergency and ICU’s. Various specialized tests like hormonal assays, tumour markers, HsCRP, Vitamin B12, Folic acid, Vitamin D, Iron profile etc are performed on fully automated machines. Computerized reports are generated. Our lab is NABL accredited and external quality control program of Randox is being followed to ensure accurate reporting.
