Department of Sciences

Overview

The Department of Sciences includes UG, PG & Ph.D. Course Programmes in Pure and Applied sciences. The Department has well qualified faculty and well equipped main infrastructure facilities for overall personality development and build-up of entrepreneurship thinking skills in students.The infrastructure facilities include classrooms, well equipped laboratories, computer facilities and a Central library. Pure science, be it natural, physical or mathematical is the backbone for research and development and opens up opportunities for students in the state and central research organisations. In addition, the College also offers a number of profession linked courses at UG and PG level.

The Dept. of Biotechnology has well established Plant Tissue Culture Lab and and a High Tech Green House jointly funded by UCB, Govt. of Uttarakhand and SGRREM (Shri Guru Ram Rai Education Mission). Summer training programme / Dissertation / Project work(UG/PG course) are conducted in different areas of pure and applied science. In order to promote entrepreneurship in Biotechnology & Microbiology, the Departments have also initiated commercial projects such as Floriculture (Rose, gerbera and gladiolas) and Mushroom cultivation. In addition, there is a Placement cell for career guidance and placement.

Infrastructure

The Department of Sciences is well equiped with modern laboratories for undergraduate, post-graduate and research students. It also includes facility for Plant tissue culture & Hi-Tech Greenhouse. The library is having a valuable collection of good books and research journals. The department has spacious classrooms/Lecture theatres to accommodate large number of students.

Achievements

  • Dr. Saurabh Guleri - Awarded certificate of appreciation in 5th Uttarakhand State Science & Technology Congress, Organized by UCOST, Dehradun held at Doon University, 10-12 November 2010.
  • Dr. Saurabh Guleri - Six new and noteworthy records of soil fungi are reported from Doon Valley soil which have been included in fungi of India (A vast Database of indexing and referencing of Fungi).
  • Dr. Manisha Uniyal - Received Young Scientist Award in 5th USSTC held at Doon University.
  • Dr. Kumud Saklani - Co-chairperson of technical session "Advances in Biotechnology & Genetics" during international conference held at SGRRITS, Feb. 14-15 2014.
